ENROLLING A CHROMEBOOK (fresh from the box or newly reimaged):
- Boot up Chromebook and choose a wifi network
- Wait for time/date to sync with current local time
- Click Next or Accept until you reach the login window
- On main login screen: Press: CTRL + ALT + E
- Type your full email address (username@centralusd.k12.ca.us) & password
- Click OK
- Once it is enrolled notify IT Department of the enrollment with the serial number of the Chromebook and what school site (OU: organizational unit) it needs to be moved to
- Done
RESET AND RE-ENROLL A CHROMEBOOK:
- Boot up Chromebook
- Press ESC + REFRESH + POWER
- After reboot Press CTRL + D (developer mode) > ENTER > SPACE > ENTER
- This is known as a power wash or factory reset
- Chromebook will reboot automatically
- Choose a wifi network. "CUSD Public" can be used on campus locations.
- Wait for time/date to sync with current time
- Click Next or Accept until you reach the login window
- If the Chromebook is not enrolled (showing as managed), enroll it
- On main login screen: Press: CTRL + ALT + E
- Type your full email address (username@centralusd.k12.ca.us) & password
- Click OK
- Once it is enrolled notify IT Department of the enrollment with the serial number of the Chromebook and what school site (OU: organizational unit) it needs to be moved to
- Done
REIMAGE A CHROMEBOOK:
- Use a working Chromebook or Windows/Mac computer
- Download and open the Chrome App “CHROMEBOOK RECOVERY UTILITY”
- You will need a 4GB or larger USB drive to use this recovery method
- The drive will be formatted (all data will be erased) in order to use this method
- Open the Chromebook Recovery Utility and type in the model number of the Chromebook you want to reimage or choose from the drop down menu
- On the problem Chromebook: Press ESC + REFRESH + POWER
- The model number is on the bottom of the screen
- Insert the thumb drive and allow the application to format it and create a bootable installer
- On the problem Chromebook: Press ESC + REFRESH + POWER
- Insert the USB drive into the Chromebook and it will automatically start loading
- You will be notified by a message on the screen once the process is complete
- Remove the USB drive and the Chromebook will reboot
- Follow the steps above to enroll the Chromebook if necessary
